I used this book in an Introducion to Solid State Physics course, and although I found subjects were well-described and complete, the text was hard to comprehense and quite poorly written. My professor explained that there are few books that teach Solid State Physics on this level, and that of those books this one may be the best there is.3/5(8).

This book offers a concise but self-contained handbook-length treatment of this historically important topic for students at about the third-year-level of an undergraduate physics curriculum. After opening with a review of Kepler's three laws of planetary motion, it proceeds to the analyze the general dynamics of 'central force' orbits in.

Asked to answer, so I’ll jump in here. Kittel is probably Concise Encyclopaedia of Solid State Physics book most popular out there. I don’t like it as much, though, because in my opinion Kittel’s style is a bit terse in that he doesn’t provide as much detail into deriving the equations as I’d.

Solid State Physics by Professor Leo Radzihovsky. This note covers the following topics: Elasticity, fluctuations and thermodynamics of crystals, thermodynamics of phonons, Hohenberg-Mermin-Wagner theorem, Ginzburg-Landau theory and Landau's quantum hydrodynamics, Bosonic matter, Magnetism in charge insulators, Jordan-Wigner transformation and XXZ chain, Coherent-spin states and Berry.

Solid-state physics is the study of rigid matter, or solids, through methods such as quantum mechanics, crystallography, electromagnetism, and is the largest branch of condensed matter -state physics studies how the large-scale properties of solid materials result from their atomic-scalesolid-state physics forms a theoretical basis of materials science.

It is a better choice than Kittel's book. Ashcroft & Mermins book "Solid state physics" is IMO the best graduate level book. My personal favorite SS Physics book is "Atomic and Electronic Structure of Solids" by Kaxiras because its a computational Solid.

Every once in a while, we get a question asking for a book or other educational reference on a particular topic at a particular level. This is a meta-question that collects all those links together. If you're looking for book recommendations, this is probably the place to start.

Concise Encyclopaedia of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, 2nd Edition is a fully revised and updated version of this acclaimed resource.

The book provides definitions and often explanations of over words, phrases and concepts relating to this fast-moving and exciting field, offering a convenient, one-stop summary of the core knowledge in the area.

Solid State Physics. This note covers the following topics: Ionic Solids, Other crystal structures, Metallic Bonding, Electric Current, Mean Free Path, Free Electron Gas in Metals, Three-Dimensional Electron Gas, Quantum Theory of Conduction, Magnetism in Solids, Ferromagnetism, Impurity Semiconductors, Solid-State Lighting, Superconductivity and Meissner Effect.

Physics (from Ancient Greek: φυσική (ἐπιστήμη), romanized: physikḗ (epistḗmē), lit. 'knowledge of nature', from φύσις phýsis 'nature') is the natural science that studies matter, its motion and behavior through space and time, and that studies the related entities of energy and force.

Physics is one of the most fundamental scientific disciplines, and its main goal is. •The Solid State, by H M Rosenberg, OUP This slightly more advanced book was written a few decades ago to cover what was the solid state course at Oxford at that time. Some parts of the course have since changed, but other parts are well covered in this book.

The objective of Solid State Physics is to introduce college seniors and first-year graduate students in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, chemistry, and related areas to this diverse and fascinating field.

I have attempted to present this complex subject matter in a coherent, integrated manner, emphasizing fundamental scientific ideas to give the student a strong 5/5(1).
